A Message from Alan about the London Marathon -Sunday 25th April 2010

Dear St Martin's, Exning: St Philip & St Etheldreda: St Nicholas, Landwade

 ''you people are simply amazing'',

a Note of Thanks from ''the ever motivated and spirited Alan'', and Marie Curie Cancer Care. Thanks to your phenomenal support, an incredible

£6,000 target will become reality and with gift aid, over £7,000 which equates to 350 hours of love and care, to those who wish to spend their last days at home.  (better than that Alan !! see below)

Thank you all for being part of my amazing day too, most respectable 3:51 time although a ''not today'' day for a PB, targeting Athens in October to better my current 3:35 god willing.

Memorable moments:

  • Getting soaking wet at the start with a heavy shower,

  • overtaking a telly tubby/a giraffe/Elvis/army bloke with 40lb rucksack/policeman and fairy princess.

  • saw Branson at the start with a fairy angel outfit,

  • being overtaken by a ballerina at mile 24,

  • high-fiving the kids along the route,

  • talking to other participants/charities-quite a few came from overseas despite the Volcano

  • talking to the lady from Iceland at the expo about their marathon in August-and yes the volcano is perfectly safe.(Oh yeah!)….

  • and Crossing the finish line .

for all those who would love to have '' one of the best days of your life, give it a go '', for yourself and others. I wholeheartedly recommend it. :-)

blessings Alan

Alan Comments in his 2009 race report:

What a most amazing day last for the Flora's !!  for me I ran sensibly in the temp and still pulled a very respectable time, feel great, no blisters, bruises, niggles and best of all surpassed my fundraising target. thanks for your support and encouragement .  + link to see my fun photos above

Memories I hold are:

  • The start of the race, after all the training there was no turning back.

  • The different live bands playing around the course – from 2 men to 50 plus orchestras.

  • The Kids high fives from start to finish – how they stood there for that long and still loved it when you gave them 5 was amazing.

  • The kindness, support and generosity of the British public from 2year olds to 82 year olds.

  • The sweets, drinks, ice-pops, oranges and cakes being handed out. (Never took any cake though).

  • The queues before and during the race for the toilets – found a bush before the race thankfully

  • The Heat – boy it was hot (Weighed myself before and after and lost 8lbs) – who needs Weightwatchers?

  • Actually seeing my family and getting encouragement from them and how proud they looked of me.

  • Entering Birdcage walk and up the Mall in so much pain but not stopping – just because…..

  • To crossing the  finish line and breaking down with emotion of achievement

  • To inspire and aspire

take care,  2010 here we come  yeehaa !!
